Our Approach
Being in the Emergency Department can be overwhelming, even more so for people 65 and older. Stamford Health’s Geriatric Emergency Medicine Initiative (GEMI) program brings together a skilled team of geriatric liaisons who are dedicated to delivering a personalized, efficient, and quality experience.
- Our team is trained in evaluating a wide variety of issues that are specific to geriatric patients, including stroke, dementia, and pain management.
- We coordinate your care and develop a plan to prevent future emergency visits by working directly with your medical team such as a primary care provider, pharmacist, or geriatrician.
- The GEMI team assesses patients between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. in the emergency department at Stamford Hospital. At all other times, our registered nurses assess patients.
