Stamford Health Re-accredited Magnet Status by American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)

STAMFORD, CT, May 6, 2021 – Today, during National Nurses Week, Stamford Health announced it has once again been designated ANCC Magnet Recognition® status, one of the most prestigious forms of recognition a hospital can receive for nursing excellence. Stamford Hospital is among 7% nationwide and 1 of 7 in the state of Connecticut to have achieved this honor. The accreditation will be in effect for four years.

The application and redesignation process began last April at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic in Connecticut. Nearly a year later in February, Magnet appraisers conducted a virtual site visit due to circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic and conducted a thorough review of Stamford Health’s nursing practice.

“A designation of this kind comes only after a rigorous assessment of patient outcomes, quality, safety, patient experience, employee engagement, and intraprofessional collaboration,” said Ellen Komar, Senior Vice President, Patient Care Services & Chief Nursing Officer at Stamford Health. “After an extraordinarily tough year, this achievement is a remarkable tribute to our nursing team’s dedication, resilience and spirit. On behalf of them all, we are so proud.”

A Magnet designated organization supports collaboration and an environment where nurses can grow professionally which has multiple benefits for Stamford Health, its patients and the communities it serves. In addition to the redesignation, attending Magnet appraisers noted five “exemplars” for superior performance. They included transformational leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic; and outperformance in the following quality and patient-experience indicators - reduction of falls with injury, reduction of catheter-associated urinary tract infection, and courtesy and respect.
