When you're diagnosed with cancer, the first priority is always focused on treatment. However, some of those cancer treatments, as well as cancer itself, can cause limitations during recovery that may hold you back from your daily routines. The Carl & Dorothy Bennett Cancer Center's Oncology Rehab team is here to help you get back to your healthy lifestyle.

Why Might I Need Cancer Rehabilitation?

Cancer rehabilitation is designed to help alleviate pain, build strength, increase your level of activity and promote overall independence while on your path to healthful living. Our team of specially trained staff will work with you to develop an individualized care plan based on your specific needs and your response to cancer treatment. We may recommend physical, occupational or speech therapy, nutritional counseling and a fitness program with oversight by staff who are specifically trained to work with those with cancer.

What's Involved In My Cancer Rehab?

As part of your care plan, you may receive services including:

  • Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and/or Speech Therapy
  • Individual, Family, and Group Counseling
  • Nutrition Consultations and Workshops
  • Integrative Medicine programs such as massage, reiki, reflexology, cranial sacral therapy, yoga and tai chi
  • Nutrition consultations and workshops
  • Wellness programs such as stress management, art, music and sound therapy workshops
  • Fitness programs
  • Educational programs and workshops to highlight specific issues and coping strategies

The Cancer Recovery Program in Partnership with the Health & Fitness Institute

When you finish cancer treatment, we'll invite you to participate in the Health & Fitness Institute (HFI) Cancer Recovery Program. This unique, two-phase program helps survivors develop an overall fitness plan, improve health and live with more vigor.

The on-boarding process into the Cancer Recovery Program begins with a health & fitness assessment performed by one of our Certified Cancer Exercise Specialists. The assessment helps gauge your current fitness level, allowing our trainers to customize an exercise program around your current needs. Each program will focus on aerobic fitness, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, and balance work; all while keeping an individualized approach that allows participants of all fitness levels to feel comfortable beginning an exercise program during this phase. Providing a safe and effective program that provides confidence in your recovery is of the utmost importance.
