Our Compassionate, Comprehensive Approach

If you’re faced with a urologic cancer diagnosis, we at Stamford Health are committed to providing emotional support along with the latest medical and integrative medicine treatments and diagnostic services. We offer treatment for prostate, bladder, kidney, testicular, ureteral, and urethral cancers – all commonly referred to as genitourinary cancers.

Our Carl & Dorothy Bennett Cancer Center which relies on person-centered care with evidence-based treatment, broadened its relationship with Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center. This allows our patients to have enhanced oncology care from both world-class teams.

Cancer diagnosis and treatment can be a confusing, and sometimes frightening, process. Stamford Health’s nurse navigators ensure that no patient is ever left feeling alone. Our navigators work as part of a multidisciplinary oncology team to support patients through their cancer treatment and into survivorship. They answer questions, coordinate appointments and services, and offer referrals to additional resources, if needed.

Our cancer team works closely with the urologic surgery team for a seamless patient experience. We offer the latest technological advances to better identify, diagnose, and treat men with prostate cancer. This includes digital prostate examination and the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test for highly precise and accurate results.

Advanced Technology For Precise Treatment

Urologic Cancer Treatment Options

Once a diagnosis is made, treatment depends on the type and stage of the cancer. Your oncologist will work with you to personalize a care and treatment plan.

surgeon
Our board-certified surgeons have extensive training in the latest minimally invasive techniques. This means you’ll likely have less pain, less blood loss, and quicker recovery. Urologic procedures are performed at both Stamford Hospital and Tully Health Center.
radiation
When you need radiation therapy, our expert team depends on the latest technology to care for you. Your radiation oncologist, working together with your medical team, will develop a personalized care plan.
chemo
We offer state-of-the art immunotherapy, including Sipileucel-T (Provenge) for prostate cancer; and nivolumab (Opdivo) and atezolizumab (Tecentriq) for bladder and renal cell cancers. If needed, your oncologist will create a plan for your chemotherapy treatment, which will include your dosage of medication and how often you’ll receive it.

How Genetics Play A Role In Prostate Cancer

Certain cancers, including genitourinary cancers, occur in some families more than others. To determine your risk, Stamford Health offers genetic counseling, with both genetic counselors and geneticists. This team works with the Bennett Cancer Center to provide guidance, information, and, in some cases, testing to understand and possibly reduce your risk of hereditary prostate cancer.
