A Closer Look At Our Radiation Oncology Program

How Does Radiation Therapy Work?
Radiation therapy uses high-energy beams to destroy or damage cancer cells. Once the genetic material within the cancer cells have been destroyed, the cancer cells are not able to grow and spread. When they die, the body naturally removes them. Normal cells also are affected by radiation, but they are able to repair themselves in a way that cancer cells cannot.
Goals Of Radiation Therapy
Your radiation oncologist will develop a highly personalized care plan to meet one or more of the following goals:
- Cure or shrink early-stage cancer.
- Stop cancer from coming back (recurring) or moving somewhere else (metastasizing).
- Treat and help minimize symptoms caused by advanced cancer.
- Treat cancer that has returned (recurred).

Advanced Technology For Precise Treatment

TrueBeam Linear Accelerator
With our TrueBeam Linear Accelerator, you can receive precise radiation treatments in less time for more comfortable treatments with less damage to surrounding tissue. The accelerator is effective in delivering external beam radiation therapy in a sensitive area like the abdomen, breast, liver, lung, neck, or prostate.
