Our Approach
If your child is having an emergency, our doctors understand that they have different needs than adults, both medically and developmentally. As the first facility in the region with a separate pediatric emergency department, our specialty-trained, board-certified physicians deliver a more soothing approach during what might be a frightening experience.
- Our department has a separate waiting area for children and their caregivers that includes a fish tank and other kid-friendly features.
- Each of the patient rooms is equipped for all pediatric emergencies, but is designed with nautical features meant to engage children. This child-friendly environment helps reduce anxiety often associated with a children’s ER or urgent care for kids.
- Should your child need to be admitted, we are the only hospital in lower Fairfield County with pediatric hospitalists providing advanced in-house, family-friendly care 24/7. This level of support is an important distinction from urgent care pediatrics or other non-hospital settings.
Pediatric Services At Stamford Health
Our skilled team provides comprehensive care you can rely on, offering the expertise families expect when choosing a children’s hospital ER or pediatric ER.
Why A Pediatric Emergency Department Matters
We created our Pediatric Emergency Department with the thought that if our children are comfortable, our parents can be comfortable. From your first steps inside our unit, our goal is to help our youngest patients both medically and emotionally – including ice pops and stickers as rewards. Choosing a dedicated pediatric emergency environment offers advantages over a general urgent care for kids, especially for more serious or time-sensitive conditions. What To Expect
Entering the Pediatric Emergency Department can feel overwhelming, but our compassionate team will ensure you and your child are comfortable throughout the experience. Families seeking children’s ER options can expect focused, child-specific care from the moment they arrive.
- When should I bring my child to the emergency department?
We recommend you bring your child to the Pediatric Emergency Department for injuries, abdominal pain or suspected appendicitis, respiratory illnesses, and seizures or other neurological emergencies. If your newborn is ill, we recommend bringing him or her here as a precaution. - Who will treat my child once we’re admitted?
Stamford Hospital's Pediatric Emergency Department is a separate pediatric area with a specialty-trained team of individuals. If you bring your child to the Emergency Department outside of hours, then children will be seen by emergency department doctors who are supported 24 hours a day by pediatric hospitalists and specialists. - Where is the Pediatric Emergency Department located?
The Pediatric Emergency Department is located next to the Emergency Department at Stamford Hospital. When you arrive, a nurse will take your child’s vitals and you’ll wait to be seen in a kid-friendly area.
