Stamford Hospital's Intensive Care Unit treats critically ill adult medical and surgical patients who need complex, specialized critical care and constant monitoring.

Located on the new Stamford Hospital's second floor, the Intensive Care Unit is equipped to provide patients with the safest and most advanced intensive care in a patient-centered, family-friendly setting. Here are some highlights of our new unit:

• The construction of a new 27,000+-square-foot ICU has allowed expansion from 16 to 20 beds (with capacity to expand to 24), underscoring the Hospital’s commitment to critical care and tertiary services.
• Patient rooms are sized as multi-purpose spaces, allowing most treatments to occur in one location with overhead booms for managing technology and providing more space for families.
• The rooms are suitable for all specialties and spacious enough to accommodate teaching and research. The “pod” setting keeps staff close to patients.
• A smart and compassionate design incorporates natural light, soundproofing, ample waiting areas and comfortable space for family members.

Leading our intensive care team are board-certified critical care physicians and an expert team of nurses with advanced intensive care training. ICU patients also benefit from the extensive range of skilled specialty physicians, house physicians, respiratory therapists and other health professionals available at the Hospital.

Because being in an ICU can be an overwhelming emotional experience, staff members are always available to listen to patients' and loved ones’ concerns and answer their questions. When needed, psychologists and spiritual counselors are also available.
