Kenny K's Story (Total Knee Replacement)
In regards to Kenny's condition and treatment, Dr. Cavallo recounts, “I’ve been treating Kenny for a while and we had tried everything from a conservative standpoint. In his case, this included activity modification, anti-inflammatory medication and injections of cortisone and hyaluronic acid. His quality of life kept deteriorating, so we determined that both knees needed to be replaced. We planned to do staged procedures as opposed to both knees at one time.”
Stamford Health’s patient-centered approach to care was very tangible to Kenny. He describes his 3-day hospital stay as, “Nothing but a wonderful and exceptional level of care. On the day of my surgery, I was impressed at how very kind and attentive everyone was, as if they had known me already. I know there’s always anxiety and worry that goes with you in these situations, but it really helped that the staff constantly asked if I was okay and if I needed anything up until when I was discharged. They were true superstars of patient care!”
“Kenny is quickly recovering from his first knee replacement performed this past May and already has much less pain and significantly better function than the non-operative knee. He’s experiencing tremendous gains in his quality of life and has already made plans to replace the other side,” says Cavallo.
