COVID-19 Vaccination Information
There is an updated COVID-19 vaccine available from both Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends everyone ages 6 months and older receive an updated COVID-19 vaccine to protect themselves this fall and winter. Stamford Health should have the updated COVID-19 vaccine in early October. Please check in with your physician’s office for updated information.
If you have not received the primary series of the COVID-19 vaccine, you are still eligible to receive the updated vaccine which targets strains of the virus that are circulating now. The updated vaccine should be given at least two months after the most recent dose of COVID-19 vaccine received. Everyone 65 years old and above and those that are immunocompromised may get two doses of the updated vaccine; the second dose should be four months after the first. Vaccination is the best way to prevent COVID-19-related hospitalization and death.

When To Take Action
Use this guide if you have concerns about COVID-19 and are not sure what to do.
EMERGENCIES
If you are having a medical emergency, dial 9-1-1 or go to your local emergency department.

If You Have Symptoms of COVID-19
- Get tested for COVID-19 and stay home until your test results come back.
- If you test positive with an at-home antigen test, assume the result is accurate and let any recent close contacts know.
- If you test negative and symptoms persist, retest in 48 hours.

Recovering At Home
- If you test positive, are up to date with your COVID-19 vaccines, and do not have any medical conditions that put you at high risk, your symptoms will likely be mild and you can recover at home.
- If your symptoms are mild, stay home and isolate for five days. If symptoms improve, you can stop isolating after five days. Continue to wear a mask when around other people for five more days.
- The first day should be counted as the day after symptoms start or the day after your positive test results if you’re asymptomatic.

Learn About COVID-19 Treatments
Paxlovid is an oral antiviral drug that should be taken within five days of symptom onset. It is recommended for adults 18 and older who are at high risk of severe COVID-19. Paxlovid is available for patients by prescription only. Please speak with your health care provider if you think you could be a candidate for Paxlovid.
