About Me
Abbe Kirsch (she/her) is a certified nurse midwife with decades of experience caring for women and their (growing) families. For the past 24 years, Abbe has provided care in a collaborative practice to the diverse South Bronx community. Abbe specialized in adolescent health, high-risk pregnancies, and comprehensive family planning services. She started a “Centering Pregnancy” program that was well attended by the community and thrived for over 15 years.
Abbe was instrumental in New York State and New York City initiatives to address birth equity, with a focus on substance use and perinatal mood disorders. Abbe has taught and precepted OB/GYN and family practice residents, as well as midwifery and medical students. She developed patient education materials and policies and has taught childbirth education.
Abbe spent the past 26 years working in New York City at BronxCare Health System, the William F. Ryan Community Health Center, and Gouverneur Hospital. She is a clinical trainer on Nexplanon for Organon, and provides Childbirth Education seminars for the 1199 SEIU Fund/Wellness Program.
She received her master’s degree in nursing, specializing in midwifery, and her master of public health in population health from Columbia University; and a bachelor’s degree in French, political science and sociology from the University of California at Santa Barbar
