Several months have passed in the blink of an eye and suddenly you are just about ready to embark on a defining moment of your life: labor. So what is a mom-to-be to do? Why, plan of course!
At Stamford Hospital Labor and Delivery, our goal is happy, healthy babies and happy, healthy moms. Imagine feeling secure, informed and empowered for this journey. A delivery plan, as discussed with your OBGYN before 36 weeks, can do just that.
Here are a few pointers on getting that plan into action:
1. Take advantage of classes at Stamford Hospital. We offer Childbirth Preparation, Preparation for Breastfeeding, Basics of Infant Care, and Mother's Group.
2. If you haven't already, complete your birthing preferences checklist. This helps ensure we do our best to accommodate your wishes. Please discuss these with your obstetrician.
3. Prepare that hospital bag. Bring a comfortable pair of pajamas for after delivery, and a change of clothes for anyone else accompanying you during labor. If you have preferred toiletries, or music or books to help pass the time, pack those as well.
4. Double-check. A more complete list of suggestions can be found on our Preparing for Childbirth page.
Having a delivery plan that has been reviewed by your doctor ensures that your physician, your nurse and you, are all on the same page. Ultimately, this process helps put to pen your expectations, questions you may have about what you read about online or discussions you’ve had with other moms.
Discussing this plan helps your physician to inform you about your labor process. This will ease your worries, empower your decision making, and make your labor story an enjoyable experience.
