Unrest in America: A Message from the CEO

Message from Kathleen Silard, President & CEOPlease see below for a recent message from Kathleen Silard, President & CEO, to all Stamford Health employees about the unrest in America following the death of George Floyd.

I am deeply disturbed by the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis last week, and recognize the feelings of frustration and anger on display in protests nationwide. I know that many of you – like many members of the communities we serve – are in pain, and I want you to know that I acknowledge that pain.

When I heard about the protests in our region in recent days, it made me feel proud to see people from all walks of life coming together in a peaceful show of solidarity. We must all do the hard and necessary work to create a fair, just, and peaceful world for all people, regardless of racial background. This should go without saying, but sometimes it is important to say it, and so I am writing you this memo.

Caring for our community is why Stamford Health exists. In challenging moments I fall back on our values of teamwork, compassion, integrity, respect, and accountability. For me, this moment calls for listening with respect and compassion to people striving for a better world.

In the last three months, we have referenced a Nelson Mandela quote over and over again: “It always seems impossible until it’s done.” We must all do our part to remedy these issues in our own community – alone, and together with others.
