Stamford Hospital Recognized by U.S. News & World Report in 12 Areas, Ranked #1 in Fairfield County

Stamford, CT / July 29, 2025 – U.S. News & World Report (USNWR), a leading authority on hospital rankings, has released its “Best Hospitals 2025–2026” rankings. Stamford Hospital earned recognition in 12 areas – including being named the #1 hospital in Fairfield County and #4 hospital in Connecticut. This year’s results mark Stamford Hospital’s strongest performance to date in the USNWR annual rankings, underscoring the hospital’s continued focus on clinical excellence and patient-centered care.

Stamford Hospital earned new high performing ratings in seven procedures and conditions: abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, diabetes, heart arrhythmia, kidney failure, leukemia/lymphoma/myeloma, stroke, and transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). The hospital also retained high performing ratings from the previous year in heart failure, hip fracture, hip replacement, and pneumonia. Additionally, Stamford Hospital was once again recognized for expertise in orthopedics, one of ten eligible specialties evaluated by USNWR, through its continued partnership with Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) – who was rated #1 in the U.S for orthopedics and #3 in rheumatology. These ratings reflect favorable outcomes, high safety standards, and a commitment to quality care across key specialties.

“These recognitions represent Stamford Hospital’s highest achievement yet in the U.S. News & World Report rankings,” said Kathleen Silard, President & CEO of Stamford Health. “We are incredibly proud of our interdisciplinary care teams, whose expertise and dedication to safe, high-quality, and compassionate care make honors like this possible.”

“Our performance in this year’s rankings demonstrates how deeply we are committed to excellence in and overall patient care and experience,” said Rohit Bhalla, MD, MPH, Senior Vice President and Chief Clinical & Quality Officer at Stamford Health. “These results complement many of our organizational quality recognitions including consecutive “A” safety ratings from The Leapfrog Group, Magnet designation, meritorious designation from the American College of Surgeons, the John D. Thompson Award from the Connecticut Hospital Association, and Great Place To Work™ recertification for the fifth year.”

“Our physicians, nurses, and staff come to work every day focused on one thing: delivering the highest standard of care to every patient,” said Rod Acosta, MD, Chief Physician Executive. “These rankings are a reflection of that shared purpose.”

Stamford Health is a major teaching affiliate of the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons and offers treatment and expertise from Columbia University Irving Medical Center’s nationally recognized heart and neurosurgeons. New York-Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia and Cornell was recognized as one of the best hospitals in the nation and a #1 hospital in New York, #5 in the U.S. for cardiology and heart & vascular surgery, and #3 for neurology and neurosurgery. Among Stamford Hospital’s other strategic partnerships, Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center was ranked #3 in the U.S. for cancer care and the top ranked in New England for 2025-26.

For more than 30 years, U.S. News & World Report's annual Best Hospitals rankings have been helping patients find, in consultation with their doctors, the best hospital for their health needs. Each year, USNWR evaluates nearly 6,000 hospitals – more than any other public hospital ranking.
