Committed to Communicating With You
At Stamford Hospital, we believe healthcare should be accessible to everyone. Being the most trusted healthcare partner, we always want to provide correct information to our patients, families and guests with limited English as well as the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. All our language assistance services are available at no cost. Stamford Health provides a variety of services to best assist our patients, families and guests, which include:Video Remote Interpreter (VRI)
Our LanguageLine video devices provide communication between our patients, families and guests and hospital staff. Language Line has 41 of their top languages available. VRI allows the patient, family and guests speak with a live person. If a patient, does not want to be seen by the interpreter they can always ask the hospital staff to turn around the device. We always protect our patients first and foremost.Over the Phone Interpreting
We also use Language Line for our over the phone interpreting service. Once a patient, family member or guest calls Stamford Health, we can facilitate an interpreter over the phone as well to help direct the conversation appropriately.Deaf and Hard of Hearing
Stamford Health provides a variety of mechanisms to assist the deaf and hard of hearing patients, families or guests. We want to provide the best experience possible while they are here.
Various options of communication:
- In person interpreting (American Sign Language-ASL)
- Video Remote interpreting (ASL)
- Writing via pen and paper
Once we asses the patient is deaf or hard of hearing, we decide together what is the best way to communicate. If you have a planned visit to one of our Stamford Health facilities, please call ahead in order to provide the proper service of communication while you visit.
