Surgical Weight-Loss Options Offered

We work with you to find the best surgery for your condition and lifestyle, answering any questions you or your family have throughout the process.

BILIOPANCREATIC DIVERSION WITH DUODENAL SWITCH (BPD/DS)

Typically for patients with more severe obesity and related conditions, this complicated surgery is a combination of a sleeve gastrectomy, or reshaping the stomach, and an intestinal bypass. It is particularly helpful for the treatment of Type 2 diabetes.

GASTRIC BALLOON

In this minimally invasive technique, a balloon is inserted with an endoscope into your stomach for up to six months. The goal is to allow you to feel full without eating as much.

GASTRIC BAND

In this procedure, a silicone band is placed around your stomach. The band reduces the stomach’s capacity – retraining you to eat less. It is a reversible surgery.

GASTRIC BYPASS SURGERY

Surgeons laparoscopically create a small pouch from the stomach and connect it directly to the small intestine. The effect leaves patients feeling full after very small portions, and, because of the changes, may improve diabetes symptoms.

GASTRIC SLEEVE

After removing a large part of the stomach laparoscopically, surgeons reshape the organ to resemble a very thin banana. The smaller shape means patients feel full after eating less.

SINGLE ANASTOMOSIS DUODENAL SWITCH (SADI)

This simplified version of the duodenal switch procedure is ideal for patients who have already had a sleeve gastrectomy. It also helps stabilize blood sugar and improve diabetes symptoms.

REVISIONAL SURGERY

While most bariatric procedures are highly successful, some do require a follow-up procedure of revisional surgery. Our team is highly experienced in working with those who have undergone weight-loss surgery in the past and have failed to lose weight, have developed symptoms such as acid reflux, or have experienced weight regain.

Health Benefits Of Weight-Loss Surgery

Over the years, bariatric surgery has become less invasive, safer, and more common. These surgeries have been studied to reduce the risk of premature death from obesity-related conditions like diabetes, heart disease, and more. Here are just a few more benefits to undergoing weight-loss surgery.

  • Acid reflux: Many studies have shown that gastric bypass surgery gives relief and control of issues with acid reflux.
  • Cancer: Weight-loss surgery has been shown to substantially reduce the risk of some common cancers.
  • Depression: After surgery and lifestyle changes, many patients experience a decrease in symptoms of depression.
  • Diabetes: As an effective treatment option for obesity-related diabetes, surgery will increase your sensitivity to insulin so you respond better to oral medication and reduce the need for injections.
  • Heart disease: Your post-surgery weight takes strain off of the heart, lowering your risk of heart failure and your cardiovascular risk.
  • Incontinence: When less weight is placed on the bladder, fewer incidents of incontinence may occur.
  • Osteoarthritis: For those with osteoarthritis of the knee and hip, specific surgeries may not be an option for those with obesity. But, weight-loss surgery can help improve the condition and your pain.
  • Sleep apnea: Bariatric surgery is proven to reduce the effects of sleep apnea and, in some cases, cure it. However, you should still continue with continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy for about six months after your surgery. Within a year, your team will reassess your situation with you.
