Internal Medicine Residency Program

Clinical experience. Expert faculty. Personalized training.

At Stamford Hospital, we are proud to be part of a health system rich in both clinical and cultural diversity and learning. Clinical training here is supported by:

  • A regional referral and tertiary care center anchored by a state-of-the-art hospital facility.
  • An academic environment with strong ties to the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University and the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University.
  • An internationally recognized Planetree institution with an emphasis on relationship-centered care and interprofessional collaboration.
  • A diverse patient population - Stamford is the second largest city in Connecticut and has been ranked the 16th most diverse city in the United States.

The Internal Medicine Residency Training Program at Stamford Hospital prepares our residents to manage diverse medical diseases across the spectrum of inpatient, intensive care and ambulatory settings, with a balanced curriculum that provides a foundation for a wide choice of career options. Key features and accomplishments of our residency program include:

  • A modified block scheduling system that allows for separation of inpatient and outpatient responsibilities.
  • A comprehensive didactic curriculum delivered in a protected academic half day format supplemented by inpatient and outpatient online curricula.
  • Individualized faculty advising and mentoring and educational plans tailored to residents’ interests and needs.
  • Substantial opportunities and guidance for research and other scholarly activities.
  • Excellent fellowship match record in competitive sub-specialties and placements in desirable hospitalist and primary care positions post-residency.

Our goal is for our residents to maximize their interests and strengths and to be guided to work on areas of opportunity and improvement.
