Resident & Graduate Testimonials
Excellent well rounded program. Specifically note that elective training experience allowed for a great deal of direct 1 on 1 contact with specialty attendings which is a rare opportunity in many residency programs. Ambulatory experience was similar - direct experience 1 on 1 with attendings allowed residents to polish their oral presentations and learn from the clinical experiences of senior staff.
The unopposed nature of the residency allowed for residents to become proficient at procedures. Also, residents had unrivaled experience with directly calling consults to specialty attendings which is rare in other institutions and allows residents to learn directly from experienced attendings.
Felt my training was superior to that of almost all other fellows and residents at my program. Specifically, felt that I excelled in clinical decision making, oral presentation, and procedures. In these respects Stamford hospital is head and shoulders above most other residencies. No other institution teaches how to read a CXR, an ABG, or place a line as well as at Stamford Hospital.
Excellent safety culture at Stamford Hospital - proactive with safety reports and non-punitive.
Excellent focus on training for oral presentations and clinical decision making in ambulatory setting.
Hospitalists lead effective rounds primarily focused on correct clinical decision making and learning by doing.
Attendings are top quality educators. All staff including RN and RTs are highly invested in education and are excellent teachers. Nursing staff are top notch - supportive, capable, and will teach. Nursing staff is respectful and professional to a high level in all settings.
Compared to residencies at my current fellowship program, the experiences of my peers who went to other residencies, and those of my co-residents at Stamford Hospital who have graduated, it looks like the training offered by other residencies is simply not up to par with Stamford. In many places, residents don't perform a line procedure until end of second year - or never perform a central line, or an intubation. At Stamford Hospital residents excel in oral presentations and clinical decision making.
Residents are close with each other and the program as a whole has a positive and inclusive culture which is precious.
All attendings have made a serious positive impact on my training. Opportunities at Stamford Hospital are fantastic for motivated residents.
Program administration is highly motivated regarding resident wellbeing and education. They invest a great deal of resources in assuring an optimal and personalized training experience.
I thoroughly enjoyed my residency experience. [Now in Fellowship] I feel well equipped to deal with the challenges. I feel prepared above my peers and feel confident in my training. I truly appreciate all the effort that went into emphasizing teaching in our program.
“This is an amazing program that provides every opportunity to grow personally and professionally. We have a very academic structure with many research opportunities. Patient population is very diverse which makes us well prepared after residency. Being in a smaller size program is another great advantage! We can do many procedures and have the opportunity to work just as fellows in our rotations. Our program has the perfect balance of autonomy and supervision. Program leadership and attendings are very supportive and approachable. They care about us as individuals. I feel very supported. We are truly a family here!”
“This program has given me the space to grow as a physician and as a leader. I’ve seen diverse pathology and worked with patients from a variety of cultural backgrounds, which has prepared me for my future practice. The program has a positive and supportive atmosphere; I feel grateful to have matched at the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Stamford Hospital.”
“Our ICU rotation is superb, with a wide variety of cases. Moreover, there are plenty of research, quality improvement, and procedure opportunities. Our intensivists are quite involved in our learning and are extremely approachable and willing to teach. Since we don’t have critical care fellows, we work next to the intensivist and nursing staff as if we were fellows. The ICU experience at Stamford Hospital is priceless.”
“What I like about this program is that it is small, and because there are no fellows, we work closely together with the attendings of all different specialties and they are all great teachers and mentors. We have found not only amazing co-residents but formed friendships and a family.”
“My training experience at Stamford Hospital has been amazing. I felt supported all the way with my goals. Whether you’re interested in doing primary care, becoming a hospitalist, or a sub-specialist, you will feel prepared for your future.”
“I love Stamford family! We do have a small size program, and this is the advantage to know everyone very well so this feels like a family! You will have enough support from attendings, residents and leadership throughout the residency to grow, expand your knowledge and gain enough experience for your future career.”
“I like the collegiality and friendship among the housestaff and the program leadership is always reachable and are very supportive”
“The best part about our program here is that we truly are like a family. We are small so we are able to be a close-knit group. We are always making plans with each other on our off days off and there’s always support when you need it. I also feel that support from program leadership. Wellness is a big part of our program and we are given tools to help us with it plus fun program sponsored events like boat cruises and LOTS of free food.”
“Being an intern at Stamford Hospital has been a great experience so far, the staff and fellow residents are easy to work with and are always willing to help. The environment is conducive to learning; we’ve had plenty of opportunities to have hands-on experiences and autonomy.“
