Ruby Desai, MD, Family Medicine at Stamford Health Medical Group - Greenwich1. Why did you choose Stamford Health Medical Group?

I recently moved to Greenwich, CT with the intention to practice within my community. The Stamford Health Medical Group Greenwich Primary Care practice afforded me that opportunity in a multidisciplinary environment that offers differing specialties while focusing on high quality personalized patient care.

2. What made you become a family medicine physician? What do you like most about your job?

As a primary care physician, I treat the patient as a whole and am able to provide comprehensive and continuous care. I enjoy the broad scope of this discipline, where I get to see diverse groups of patients with wide ranging issues. It makes each day challenging while also fulfilling.

3. What have your patients taught you over the years?

Over the years, patients have taught me the value of patience and communication. Each patient is distinctive with their own set of difficulties, values, and backgrounds, which makes each visit unique.

4. What's the most rewarding aspect of your job in general?

Certainly, a large part of primary care is treating sick patients and making them feel better. Equally important is focusing on preventing misfortunes by diagnosing and treating conditions, or simply by counseling patients before their conditions turn severe. This way, I am able to support my patients both in sickness, and in health.

5. What is one philosophy you live by?

As a medical variation on the golden rule: treat others the way I would want my family to be treated. If my loved ones were in need of care, I would wish that they received the same type of care from their PCP as they would from me. Therefore, I strive to treat each of my patients as if they were my own family. This means becoming a personal advocate for patients, and treating each of them with kindness, respect, and appreciation.
