Stamford Health Achieves Unprecedented Quality, Safety & Experience Results

Published: August 01, 2022

Stamford, CT, August 1, 2022 – Last week Stamford Health announced recognition in the areas of quality, safety and experience from several notable healthcare ratings organizations. Newly recognized and or reaccredited by U.S. News & World Report (USNWR,) Planetree International and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services(CMS,) these announcements make Stamford Hospital the only hospital in Connecticut to concurrently achieve a Leapfrog ‘A’, CMS 5 Stars, USNWR “High Performing Hospital” ratings, Magnet Designation for Nursing Excellence, Planetree Gold Certification for Excellence in Person-Centered Care and Great Place to WorkTM certification.

In the areas of quality and safety, Stamford Hospital was recently recognized by two external organizations. First, USNWR released its “Best Hospitals 2022-2023” rankings, and Stamford Hospital was recognized as a High Performing Hospital in four areas: chronic lung disease, heart failure, kidney failure, and stroke care.  Additionally, Stamford was recognized in two specialty areas: Orthopedics and Urology. This was the highest number of recognitions Stamford has received since the inception of these ratings programs. Stamford Hospital attributes its Orthopedics recognition to its collaboration with Hospital for Special Surgery, which is rated #1 in the U.S. for Orthopedics. Second, CMS awarded Stamford Hospital a 5 Star overall quality rating. Stamford Hospital is one of only three hospitals in Connecticut to achieve 5 Stars and is among approximately 14% of all U.S. hospitals who achieved 5 Stars. Stamford performed favorably across all CMS reported quality measures, with strength in safety, infection prevention, readmission, and clinical outcomes. Stamford Hospital is the only hospital in Connecticut to concurrently have recognition from USNWR, CMS 5 stars, a Leapfrog ‘A’, and to be Magnet designated.

In the areas of patient and staff experience, Stamford Health recently received two notable recognitions. First and most recently, Stamford Health achieved Gold Certification for Excellence in Person-Centered Care by Planetree International. Planetree Certification underscores an organizational commitment to providing person-centered care and the inclusion of patients and families as vital members of the care team. Stamford Health is one of only 90 healthcare organizations worldwide to earn this prestigious award. In June, Stamford Health was certified as a Great Place to WorkÔ for the second year in a row.  Great Place to WorkÔ  certification celebrates and recognizes an organization’s high-trust workplace culture. Stamford Health is one of only two healthcare systems in the state of Connecticut to ever earn this designation, and they are the only organization in Connecticut to concurrently hold Planetree and Great Place to WorkÔ  designation.

“This is an exciting time for us,” remarked Kathleen Silard, President & CEO of Stamford Health. “These achievements reflect Stamford Health’s commitment to caring for patients at the highest level possible and is a continued reminder that our teams are providing expert care with a human touch. I want to thank our dedicated staff and physicians for their hard work and compassion, to which we owe these spectacular achievements,” added Silard.
