Dr. Bergwerk is a graduate of The Johns Hopkins University, where she was a member of the first class that included women. After graduating from the Medical College of Pennsylvania (now Drexel University) Dr. Bergwerk came to Connecticut for the Yale School of Medicine primary care program and completed her internal medicine residency at Norwalk Hospital/Yale University, where she was also chief resident.

Following her training, she entered private practice in Wilton. While continuing her full time practice, Dr. Bergwerk earned a Master in Public Health at Yale. She graduated with distinction in the Health Policy track and has used her expertise to negotiate contracts and evaluate health care proposals. Dr. Bergwerk is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. Fellowship is an honor achieved by those recognized by their peers for personal integrity, superior competence in internal medicine, professional accomplishment, and demonstrated scholarship. She is a founding member of the Fairfield County American Women’s Medical Association, a member of the Fairfield County Medical Association, as well as a delegate to the Connecticut State Medical Association. She is a community based physician at Norwalk and Stamford Hospital. Dr. Bergwerk has a major commitment to the Norwalk Community Health Center which delivers care to the medically underserved.
